Direct Listing

A direct listing is an alternative to an initial public offering (IPO) in which a company lists a class of its equity securities on a national securities exchange. Typically, in a direct listing, the issuer will not sell any of its shares but the issuer will register the resale of securities held by investors to provide them with liquidity. Spotify was the first company to undertake a large direct listing on the NYSE.
