G-SIBs

Global systemically important banks. The BCBS finalized an assessment methodology to identify banks that are globally systemically important based on their size, interconnectedness, and other factors. In order to mitigate systemic risk, G-SIBs are subject to additional requirements (compared to other banks), including an additional loss absorbency requirement (a G-SIB buffer), which ranges, depending on the bank’s importance.
